About Mountain State Montessori:
Mountain State Montessori is a nonprofit community school serving Fayetteville, WV, and the surrounding area, by providing rich, experiential learning opportunities for children ages 2-12. Our Montessori-trained staff emphasize holistic child development, outdoor education, literacy, STEM, the arts, and community involvement. As we transition to a new permanent school site, we are seeking a dedicated AmeriCorps VISTA member to coordinate volunteers and manage a task list to support our relocation efforts, expand our programs, and strengthen our community engagement.
Position Overview:
Mountain State Montessori is looking for a passionate and motivated individual to serve as our AmeriCorps VISTA Community Engagement and Development Team Member. This one-year position will play a key role in supporting the school’s transition to a new facility, managing volunteers, fundraising, community outreach, and expanding educational opportunities for low-income families.
Key Responsibilities:
- Volunteer Coordination – Recruit, organize, and manage parent and
community volunteers to assist with the transition to the new school site. - Relocation Management – Manage the relocation timeline and task list,
ensuring all aspects of the school’s move stay on track and are completed
efficiently. - Fundraising & Grant Support – Assist with researching and applying for
grants, developing fundraising initiatives, and securing cash and in-kind donations to support school development.
- Community Outreach – Build partnerships with local organizations, coordinate service-learning opportunities for students and families, and enhance the school’s presence in the community.
- Program Expansion Research – Conduct feasibility studies for additional childcare and educational opportunities, such as summer and before-care programs.
- Event Planning – Organize fundraising events, service projects, and National Service Day activities.
- Reporting & Impact Assessment – Track fundraising efforts, volunteer engagement, and program outcomes to evaluate progress and develop sustainability strategies.

- Highly organized, proactive, and self-motivated individuals
- Strong communication and leadership skills
- Experience in volunteer coordination, fundraising, community outreach, or
education (preferred) - Passion for education and community development
- Ability to work collaboratively with school leadership, parents, and community
members
Time Commitment:
Full-time, 35-40 hours per week
