We invite you to join us for a night in the enchanted forest, to put on your evening finery and dance the night away to smooth jazz. With your help, proceeds from this year’s gala will go toward a new modular building for our Children’s House, the classroom for 3-6 year old students. We’ll have the silent auction rolling with items up for bid from local and regional artists and artisans. Auctioneer Charlie Webb will join us to auction off stunning fine art pieces as well, so make sure you get your bid number at the door! Event sponsor Smokey’s on the Gorge will provide delicious heavy hors d’oeuvres and will be manning the cash bar. A portion of the proceeds from sales at the bar will go into the Children’s House kitty as well. The Robinson-Kenga Trio, comprised of vocalist Susanna Robinson-Kenga, guitarist Bill Hoffman, and bassist John Sellards present a smooth, sweet recollection of mostly jazz standards from the 30’s and 40’s. Their easy banter and laid-back stage presence make for an enjoyable experience for the listener, from the jazz aficionado to any newcomer to the genre. FAQsWhat is this event for? This event is to raise money for the New River Gorge Learning Co-op, a Montessori based learning experience for children ages 3-12. This year, the proceeds of this event will go toward the purchase and installation of a modular classroom to expand the Children’s House, our 3-6 classroom. What is Montessori education? The goal of Montessori education is to foster a child’s natural inclination to learn. Montessori teachers guide rather than instruct, linking each student with activities that meet his interests, needs, and developmental level. The classroom is designed to allow movement and collaboration, as it also promotes concentration and a sense of order. To learn more visit http://amshq.org/Montessori-Education. Why does it matter? Having another education alternative in Fayette County is important because it gives parents options as to how their child is educated. While some children thrive in a traditional school setting, others do better elsewhere. There is not a one-size fits all model of education, so the more options parents have, the better. Having more education options also makes our area more attractive to families considering relocating to the area. Are there ID requirements or an age limit to enter the event? Please bring a photo ID if you plan on enjoying complimentary beverages and the cash bar during the event. Where can I contact the organizer with any questions? jonathan (at symbol) nrglc.org Is my registration/ticket transferrable? Yes.
